Honda has revealed a raft of substantial changes to the 2016 NC750X and CB500X ahead of the official launch of the bikes at the Tokyo show next week.
The firm has also revealed minor updates to the VFR1200X Crosstourer too.
The NC750X has been a consistently big seller in Europe for Honda since the bike was first launched in 2012 thanks to the combination of practicality, reliability, frugal petrol consumption and the rugged ‘off-road’ styling. For 2016 the styling has been updated to bring it more into line with the other ‘X’ models in the Honda line-up including the VFR800X Crossrunner which was revamped for 2015.
Other changes include:
LED headlights and taillights
70mm taller windscreen for reduced rider fatigue
Three levels of S mode for the Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) version to cover a wider range of riding scenarios and styles
New Showa “dual-bending” valve front fork for optimal linear suspension behavior on both compression and rebound; pre-load adjustable rear shock
Increased helmet storage area (21 to 22 litres), situated where the fuel tank is on standard models
New compact lightweight silencer producing a deeper exhaust note from the 745cc parallel twin engine with 270 degree phase crank.
The range-topping Honda VFR1200X has been given a number of minor updates for 2016 which includes a new manually-adjustable windscreen, updates to the Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) and software updates that help the DCT to work better on hills.
Honda’s press release explains: “There are now three levels of S mode for the DCT) version to cover a wider range of riding scenarios and styles. Software upgrades that allow the machine to detect uphill and downhill slopes and adjust its shift pattern accordingly. The DCT option has been chosen by the majority of VFR1200X Crosstourer customers since 2014.”
A new Special Edition colour of Candy Prominence Red and Graphite Black is also now available.
The Honda CB500X which Honda revealed at the AIMExpo motorcycle show in America very recently, is aimed at the A2 licence category and has been a popular machine thanks to the big bike looks and the rugged styling. Changes for 2016 include a 100mm taller windscreen, LED lights at the front and back and pre-load adjustable suspension for the first time.
The bike also now gets adjustable brake levers and a revised gear shift mechanism for a better feel from the gearchange.
